Novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2
On Friday, January 24, 2020, the National Reference Center for Respiratory Infections Virus (including influenza) confirmed the first three cases of patients affected by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus on French territory. From these samples, the researchers were able to start sequencing the viral genome and have the complete sequence by Wednesday, January 29, allowing it to be compared with the twenty or so other sequences present in the world.https://phototheque.pasteur.fr/vignette/00000000032/62276.thu https://phototheque.pasteur.fr/vignette/00000000032/62276.thw -

Jules Bordet (1870-1961)
In 1919 Jules Bordet was awarded the Nobel Prize for his work on the role of antibodies and the complement system. Jules Bordet’s discoveries expanded early 20th century knowledge of immunology considerably.https://phototheque.pasteur.fr/vignette/00000000028/58945.thu https://phototheque.pasteur.fr/vignette/00000000028/58945.thw -
Monkeypox virus in Central African Republic.
Monkeypox is a rare viral zoonotic disease; primary infections are reported from remote forest areas of Central and West Africa. Monkeypox is a lethal pathology in 1 to 10% of cases in the Central African Republic where epidemics of Monkeypox are recurrent in certain regions of the country.https://phototheque.pasteur.fr/vignette/00000000023/54001.thu https://phototheque.pasteur.fr/vignette/00000000023/54001.thw -

Zika outbreak
The Zika virus is a flavivirus transmitted by mosquitoes of the Aedes genus. It is widespread in Asia and Africa and has recently emerged in Central and South America. The disease caused by the virus develops 3 to 12 days after the vector insect bite and symptoms (which resemble those of the dengue virus or chikungunya, also spread by the same mosquito) include fever, headaches, skin rash, tiredness, and muscle and joint pain.https://phototheque.pasteur.fr/vignette/00000000017/48353.thu https://phototheque.pasteur.fr/vignette/00000000017/48353.thw -
