Clostridium butyricum. Bacille anaérobie formant des endospores fréquent dans l'environnement, les fromages et l'intestin de l'homme, pathogène occasionnel. Certaines souches neurotoxinogènes sont à l'origine d'entérocolites et de botulisme infantile par toxiinfection et de botulisme adulte par intoxination. "Ferment butyrique" mis en évidence par Louis Pasteur, en 1861.
